Greenness

Today I have to talk about how green I am, green meaning how environmentally friendly I am. I have lived almost all of my life in the country side, therefore I have had a bond with nature and animals for a very long time. Environment is something I care about, I´m going to explain some of the things I do in order to not make it worst. At home we separate the trash in organic and non-organic trash. The organic trash is everything that comes from vegetables and fruits, with that we make compost. The compost is a very good fertilizer, that makes your soil better and help your plants growing strong. With the non-organic trash we make a separation too, with the plastic we make ecological bricks, how? we put all the plastic trash into 1 1/2 liters plastic bottles, and when they are ready you can build structures with them. We recycle the aluminium, the tetra pack and the paperboard. So that´s more or less everything we do at home with trash.

Also in an individual level I became vegetarian around 3 or 4 years ago. One of the main reasons I did this was the environment, this is a fact not a lot of people know, the meat industry is the bigger polluter of water and air.

Nowadays I think that the environment is a big problem but we cannot focus only in that, because we are not going to change what is going on with it if we don´t change the production system. The production system in order to survive needs to pollute, so I think that the environment is just one thing within this bigger problem that is the capitalist system.

ART?

I believe that art is important because you can communicate your ideas, you can give messages with it. So I see it as a tool for change, I think through art you can make people more conscious, of course you have to complement it with a lot of other things in order to change things, but it is part of it.

I enjoy art a lot because of it´s beauty, and it´s creative potential. I mean, I value creativeness and the way art breaks, in some cases, with the standards and the hegemonic conceptions of itself.

I like to visit art museums, but I don´t do it very often. I think a couple of times a year it´s a reasonable amount of times to visit a gallery or a museum.

My favourite art expression is graffiti and muralism, because it is out of the academy and it is, in general, a collective learning process in the street. It is true that tags are not pretty, but there are a lot of other kind of graffiti that it is worth knowing. Another thing I like about graffiti it is that this art expression is a way of civic disobedience and it is, most of the times, against the established and hegemonic social order.
